Comprehensive Prenatal, Birth, Postpartum Care
You and your baby deserve compassionate, individualized and thorough medical care during your pregnancy, birth and postpartum season. Shiloh Midwifery offers free initial consultations, phone consultations for the duration of your care and insurance billing. I will be your care provider for your prenatal and postpartum visits, your labor and birth. This will give us opportunities to get to know one another and for me to understand your specific desires and needs. While specializing in normal pregnancy and birth, sometimes things become complicated and deviate from this path. If they do, I consult with other practitioners to help you get the specialized care you and your baby need. With a focus on holistic alternative therapies and a love of herbs and nutrition, I seek to help you have the best possible pregnancy outcome.
Prenatal visits last about an hour, ensuring time for questions and monitoring you and your baby’s health. There is a focus on nutrition as it is the foundation for a healthy pregnancy and baby. There is time for discussions on labs and tests, preparation for labor and birth, newborn care and breastfeeding. The necessary lab work can be completed in your home with referrals for other testing if indicated or desired, including ultrasound and genetic testing. Our visits are scheduled every four weeks until 28 weeks, every two weeks until 36 weeks, and then every week until delivery.
Labor and Delivery
Being able to labor and deliver in the comfort of your own home is an invaluable experience, and has been shown to lower intervention rates. I will monitor the wellbeing of you and your baby while offering assistance in positioning and pain relief measures if desired. There is no right or wrong way to give birth; you are free to move about, eat, drink, and discover your body’s individual way of giving birth. You can labor confidently knowing that I am watching for anything that deviates from normal, and am highly trained to handle any complications that may arise.
We will have up to five checkups in the postpartum period. These visits are to check on your wellbeing and healing, your baby’s transition to life outside the womb, and to provide breastfeeding support as needed. On the first visit CA metabolic screening can be done in the comfort of your home with your baby in your arms. On the final six week visit, birth control information is available and your annual well-woman checkup provided.
Craniosacral therapy is a type of body work that engages the cerebral spinal fluid, the bones of the cranium, the spine, and the pelvis which are all interconnected. I have been trained in craniosacral work for pregnancy birth and postpartum. This therapy is relaxing for the mother and when done during the prenatal period, will help ease the common discomforts of pregnancy as well as help the baby get into a more favorable position for birth. Craniosacral therapy can also be done during labor to aid in relaxation, help the baby stay in a good position and to help relax the pelvic floor muscles. In the postpartum period, craniosacral is helpful to the body as it realigns and readjusts itself after the birth.
Studies have shown the enormous benefits of having a trained support person at birth. Doula care reduces stress and anxiety for the laboring woman and her partner, reduces the C-section rate, and results in shorter labors and fewer interventions. Shiloh Midwifery offers free initial consultations for doula care for labor and postpartum, and montrice services. Labor doula care focuses on your delivery providing emotional, physical, informational support, and communication with your primary care staff as needed. As a montrice, I offer the benefits of doula care along with the option of medical monitoring for you and your baby, including vaginal exams and fetal heart tone checks while you labor at home. Whether birthing in the hospital or at home, my goal is to help you have a safe and wonderful birth experience.
